TOCright Goat is a creature type used for cards that depict various hollow-horned, bearded ruminant mammals living in mountainous areas and their domesticated relatives that are raised for wool, milk, and meat. ==History== The first creature to bear the type was the red <c>Mountain Goat</c> in Ice Age. It was then redone in Portal Three Kingdoms as <c>Zodiac Goat</c> a couple of years later. When Lorwyn was released, it featured the changeling mechanic. It also featured <c>Goatnapper</c>, but no Goat cards. The joke was that because of Mountain Goat and Zodiac Goat, Goat was a supported creature type, so Goatnapper affected all the creatures with changeling. With the Grand Creature Type Update, four previous Beasts were erratad to Goat Beasts, bringing the total to six Goats. Later in the block, Eventide featured <c>Springjack Shepherd</c>, which made 0/1 Goat tokens. Since then, 0/1 white creature tokens started appearing as Goats. Sixteen years after the last printed Goat, <c>Pathbreaker Ibex</c> made Goat an occasional creature type, taking it out of mono-red and into green and white. ==Storyline== ===Dominaria=== From Dominaria several Goat Beasts are known. The <c>Wild Colos</c> from Keld is sometimes used as a steed, but can only be trained as a young animal. Colos meat tastes gamey but is good for sausage. The <c>Crested Craghorn</c> is indigenous to Otaria. It is said that Craghorns experience a wide range of emotions: "rage, fury, anger . . .". Their skeletons can be found all over Skirk Ridge, tangled in each other's horns. ===Lorwyn=== Springjacks are small grazing animals native to the plane of Lorwyn. They have slightly curving horns, shaggy wool, and four-clawed paws. Kithkin keep springjacks for use as mounts, as well as for their milk, mutton, and wool. Those who tend flocks of springjacks are known as jackherds. Goblin <c title="Goatnappers">Goatnapper</c> steal Kith goats for practice. The real prize, of course, is a giant's giant winged <c title="Cloudgoat">Cloudgoat Ranger</c>. They are celebrated by the plane's Kithkin every year at the Springjack Festival, which includes a lifting competition, where the stoutest kithkin try to lift ever-increasing weights of springjack; a joust, a crowd-pleasing show of determination where each kith's jacksmanship is put to the test; and the Springjack Reel, a lively, twisting dance symbolic of the story of Talbin Beel, the first kithkin ever to tame a springjack. ===Tarkir=== The Abzan Houses of Tarkir use large Ibex (wild goats) as mounts and draught animals. They also provide good wool. ==Trivia== *<c>Animal Sanctuary</c> is a land that can put counters on goats. ==Tokens== Tokens marked with A are created by Acorn cards. ==See also== *Sheep *Satyrs ==Gallery== <gallery> springjack.jpg|Kithkin knight riding a springjack.
