Cockatrice

Template:Infobox type Cockatrice was originally a green creature type that was only used once, for the card <c>Cockatrice</c> in Alpha. Cockatrices are flying creatures that can turn their enemies to stone, much like Basilisks. They have lithe, feathery, serpentine bodies with the head of a bird, two legs, and two wings.

In Magic 2014 it finally returned as a black creature (<c>Deathgaze Cockatrice</c>). It was argued that though deathtouch suited both colors, green didn't get flying creatures anymore, making black the easiest fit with both deathtouch and flying. Journey into Nyx added the green/blue <c>Fleetfeather Cockatrice</c>, using blue to justify the flying.

Storyline

• A cockatrice was once summoned by Jared Carthalion when he was inside Castle Melmereth. It both killed and was destroyed by a Clockwork Avian.
• Another cockatrice was once contained inside an <c>Armageddon Clock</c>, and powerful enough to cause <c>Armageddon</c>.
