For the ability word, see Ward.

The wards are a uncommon white cycle of five auras that appeared in the Alpha through Fourth Edition core sets. Each granted a creature protection from a particular color. They were originally enchant creatures.

The original cycle

In color wheel order:

  • White: <c>White Ward</c>
  • Blue: <c>Blue Ward</c>
  • Black: <c>Black Ward</c>
  • Red: <c>Red Ward</c>
  • Green: <c>Green Ward</c>

Follow ups

The original five were removed after Fourth Edition as they were considered to be too weak and narrow. They were replaced by <c>Prismatic Ward</c>, from Ice Age, which was added to Fifth Edition and granted semi protection from a color of your choice. <c>Artifact Ward</c>, released in Antiquities, appropriately gives a creature protection from artifacts. <c>Flickering Ward</c>, released in Tempest, gives protection from a color of your choice. <c>Pentarch Ward</c>, released in Time Spiral, gives protection from a color of your choice and a card draw. <c>Ward of Lights</c>, released in Mirage, gives protection from a color of your choice and can be played as thought it had flash.

<c>Ward Sliver</c>, released in Legions, gives protection from a color of your choice to all Slivers.
